Castaway Cottage

Castaway Cottage has been finished and furnished to a high standard. It will sleep 6 people very comfortably but is equally cosy for 2 or 4. The Walpole Arms is the gorgeous village pub and is only 400 metres from the cottage and The Saracens Head (the quirky “lost pub of Norfolk”) is two miles away. Locally there are other good pubs, restaurants, antique centres, historic houses including the fabulous National Trust Properties Blickling Hall (the birthplace of Anne Boleyn), Felbrigg Hall and Sheringham Park Gardens, nature reserves, markets and individual shops. Not much further afield, and perfectly accessible for a day trip, are the Broads and Norwich.

Cottage History

The cottage originates from the 1850s and has been extended and re-furbished to provide all modern conveniences. It is built of red Norfolk brick with a pantile roof (as are most of the buildings in the village) and is located in Big Yard, a former agricultural yard. It is an end terrace cottage, quiet and private and has a stream at the bottom of the wild garden. If you are lucky you may see kingfishers, barn owls, egrets and the occasional otter. There are excellent local walks in all directions including to and around the Blickling Estate and Mannington Hall, the family home of Lady Walpole.

A cosy home from home

The cottage comprises a large kitchen and dining area, shower-room and lounge downstairs with three bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs. Farrow and Ball colours have been used to decorate internally and very good quality soft furnishings and furniture have been provided to create a stylish yet very cottagey feel. This cosy, home from home is in such a tranquil spot that any time of year is a good time to visit to appreciate what every season has to offer.
